Neural Mechanisms Linking Visual Perception to Spatial Cognition

Satellite workshop at the Bernstein Conference for Computational Neuroscience 2015 (BCCN)
Monday, September 14th 2015, Heidelberg, Germany

Scope: Maintaining a stable representation of the world across actions is a complex cognitive process, which requires exploratory scanning using saccades, accurate targeting of attention, anticipation of the physical consequences of motor actions, and the ability to continuously integrate sensory inputs with representations stored in memory. This symposium presents an integrated approach to space perception, by addressing this topic from neurophysiological, behavioral and computational perspectives. Read more

Spatial Representations in Biology and Robots

Satellite workshop at the International Joint Conference on Neural Networks 2015 (IJCNN)
Thursday, July 16th 2015, Killarney, Ireland

Scope: Understanding spatial representations in neuronal systems has gained significant attention in previous years. An efficient translation of such neuronal mechanism into technological applications, in contrast, is significantly less well understood. Furthermore, applications of spatial representations (such as "path-planning"), both in neuroscience and engineering, are currently under investigations at varying levels of detail (from neuronal recordings over neural-imaging to psychophysical/behavioral experiments). In this workshop, two current EU FET projects investigating spatial representations (SpaceCog and Gridmap) will contribute a nucleus of speakers. Read more
